Dr. Shakuntala Gawde served as the Coordinator for the World Religions and Philosophy (Jagatika Dharma āṇi Tattvajñāna) section of the Marathi Vishwakosha, a prestigious encyclopaedic project funded by the Government of Maharashtra from 2016-2022
The project involved conceptualizing, coordinating, and overseeing the development of scholarly articles on major world religions and philosophical traditions. The published entries covered a wide range of subjects, including Hinduism outside India, Christianity, Islam, Ancient Iranian Religion, Ancient Greek Religion, Zoroastrianism, Ancient Egyptian Religion, Ancient Mesopotamian and Babylonian Religion, Aztec Religion, and other significant religious and philosophical traditions.
As Coordinator, Dr. Gawde guided and trained contributors in preparing encyclopaedic articles according to the editorial standards and academic requirements of the Marathi Vishwakosha. Each article underwent a rigorous peer-review process by subject experts before being approved for publication. The completed entries are now available on the Marathi Vishwakosha website, providing an authoritative Marathi reference source on global religious and philosophical traditions for scholars, students, and the general public.
